Nabeul

Nabeul of the ancient Neapolis an administrative capital of the Cap Bon region is an important centre for handicrafts. Primarily known for its glazed pottery, the craft was introduced by the Andalusians in the 15th century can be found in a number of shops and bazaars. Nabeul is also well known for mats woven from rushes and esparto grass, for silver and silk embroidery, and for the distilling of Jasmine, orange-flowers and roses. Nabeul has a character of its own and is much smaller resort by comparison to the popular resort of Hammamet which is just a further 12 kilometres away along the coast and easily reached by local taxi.
What to see
- Shops and bazaars of Nabeul where you can watch as the potter’s wheel spins out a work of art or an artist weaving intricate embroidery.
- Don't miss the famous Friday market where you can buy anything from even a real or stuffed camel to a weeks supply groceries.
- The orange flower festival is held at the end of March and beginning of April each year.
- If you're into culture then make a short taxi journey to Hammamet and visit Villa Sebastian , now the theatre of International Cultural Centre of Hammamet, you can make a tour of the house and gardens, enjoy refreshments around the sumptuous pool and during the balmy summer months enjoy the Arts in the delightful open-air amphitheatre. While in Hammamet visit the old Medina and enjoy a coffee or mint tea in the café with marvelous sea views which sits on top of the old fort.
Where to go
Nabeul is ideally placed for visiting the Cap Bon region, often described at the 'Garden of Tunisia' and one of the most important areas for the production of wine. Rent a car and make a day trip around the region visiting El Haouaria, Kerkouane, Korbous and Kelibia or if you prefer your tours to be fully guided then take a full day excursion visiting the capital City of Tunis, Ancient Carthage and the fishing village of Sidi Bou Said.
