Hammamet
(transfer time from Tunis Airport 50 minutes and Monastir Airport 90 minutes)

Tunisia's most popular resort town has grown in stature over many years and famous visitors have included the likes of Winston Churchill, Oscar Wilde and Sophia Loren. Today, Hammamet--with its fortress dating back to the 15th century and old Medina-- has developed into a fine resort which still retains a great deal of its cultural background. Modern spacious hotels surround the beautiful bay stretching north and south of the town's center.
Those seeking quiet solitude should stay north of the town while vacationers looking for a little more life outside of their holiday hotel should travel south to Yasmine Hammamet where they will find a good choice of restaurants, bars and night spots. You'll find every water sport offered along its golden sandy beaches and enthusiasts of golf will find two superb golf clubs just ten minutes taxi-drive away. You can buy a range of goods in the modern fixed price shops, haggle for souvenirs in the souks of the Medina or enjoy a stroll through the grounds of the cultural center. Hammamet is for people of all ages.
What to see
- A must see is the former house and gardens of one of Hammamet's most famous residents, Georges Sebastian. Between 1932 and 1962 Villa Sebastian welcomed the most talented creators, the most famous intellectuals and some of the most important personalities of this century including Field Marshall Rommel and Sir Winston Churchill. Now the theatre of International Cultural Center of Hammamet, you can tour the house and gardens, enjoy refreshments around the sumptuous pool and during the balmy summer months enjoy the Arts in the delightful open-air amphitheatre.
- Visit the old Medina, but take try to enter via the back entrance so you can enjoy history and architectural style of the fort before being obliged to enter several shops.
Where to go
Hammamet is ideally placed for visiting the Cap Bon region, often described at the 'Garden of Tunisia'. Close by is the region's capital Nabeul, recognized as the leading town for Tunisian craftsmanship, where you'll find pottery (an activity which dates back to the Roman times), embroidery and the distillation of perfumes using orange blossom, jasmine and geranium etc. A colorful market is held every week on a Friday. You can take a full day excursion which visits all the important sites.
Yasmine Hammamet
Just south of Hammamet is the new and emerging resort town of Yasmine Hammamet. The palm-tree lined promenade is adjacent to one of the longest golden sandy beaches in Tunisia. This resort area will surely and eventually command international status and is already blessed with fine hotels, a marina with shops and restaurants, a casino, Carthage Land Theme Park (entertainment for the entire family) and an old-style Medina. Yasmine Hammamet can be enjoyed in first class hotels at very reasonable prices, with all the attractions of the established resort of Hammamet on the doorstep.
Golf
A short distance from Hammamet Yasmine on the main route to Tunis are two Golf Clubs of international standard. Golf Citrus has two 18-hole championship courses "La Foret" the forest and "Les Oliviers" the olive trees, both par 72. Guests of the Aziza, Aziza Residence and the Mediterranee can enjoy reduced green fees. Golf Yasmine is an 18-hole par 72 course of 6115 meters designed by architect Ronald Fream which has a 9-hole school course.
